Dealing with addiction in a family member or friend is often stressful, frustrating and emotionally painful. To address the needs that arise for friends and family members, COPAC developed the Family Care Program.

This structured, therapeutic 5-day program focuses on supporting family members and friends of COPAC patients. The emphasis is on education about the disease of addiction, both in the dynamics of the patient and the impact upon relationships and family life. The Family Care Program includes co-dependency education and evaluation and encourages honest and open communication. Addiction including alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders, compulsive gambling, and sex addiction are included.

The components of the Family Care Program include a presentation by the CEO of COPAC, an informative lecture on the impact of addiction on brain chemistry, education about the phenomenon of relapse, information about support groups, family-centered group therapy, family and patient group therapy, and recommendations for friends and family members for moving forward.
